Q&A
With Aaron
Q:
How did you get started teaching?
A:
I began tutoring and teaching as an undergraduate in my engineering program. I started by volunteer tutoring for calculus as a freshman, and then was quickly hired by the engineering department to tutor and teach physics and engineering courses. I was also hired by the university athletic department to tutor college athletes in their STEM related coursework. Post graduation, I took my teaching and tutoring skills online.
Q:
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A:
Whenever a new student is working with us, we will either review the request and jump right into assisting the student, OR we will set up a short 30 minute get to know you + question and answer session with that new student to be sure the fit is right. It's all about helping be sure you get the help YOU really need!
Q:
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A:
I would encourage that student not just to look at credentials. There are many people in the world with higher level education, but that DOES NOT mean they know how to teach and explain concepts in a manner which is easy for all to understand. Meet your tutor first and be sure you feel as though you will be able to have a good working relationship with them.
Q:
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A:
Before seeking help, students should consider what their goals are for seeking help. Do they have a test they are really focused on? Do they need help reinforcing the basics? It's really important the student try and help the tutor understand their needs.
