Hello STEM fans!

2020 was quite the year, and and unprecedented challenge for most students. But here's to 2021 being a brighter happier year for everyone!

If online courses in 2020 were a struggle for you or a loved one, we're hear to help in 2021. With spring semesters starting soon for many, most schools will still be stuck with 100% virtual or partially virtual learning environments. Here's some tips to help you start the 2021 school year off on the right foot!

  1. Set some boundaries. While distractions exist with in person learning, they're everywhere with online learning. Instagram, facebook, youtube etc... are all either one browser tab away or basically in your lap (on your phone) and with your camera off the only one who can hold you accountable is YOU. Try committing to putting the phone away (try a different room), and keeping the only thing open on your computer to your lecture while either attending live zoom/teams lectures or viewing a recorded lecture. Set the habit early!

  2. Get organized. Where do you prefer taking notes? Paper? OneNote? A different note taking app? Set yourself up to stay organized early! I usually spring for an app like OneNote. Make your self a separate tab or notebook for each class, a page for each lecture, and maybe some special pages for summarizing and boiling down materials into a summary to prepare for a test!

  3. Make some connections. When classes are in person what do students do? They collaborate. This is so important to continue virtually! Working together you can help each other fill in gaps in each others knowledge, and teaching is the best way to learn and solidify knowledge. Try connecting virtually with other students in your classes. Use Facebook to connect or form a discord group with your classmates! Connect, connect, connect, AND collaborate.

  4. Look the part. Ok, everyone loves working from home & going to virtual class in their PJs from time to time, but making this 'the new normal' doesn't put you in the the right mindset for success! Looking the part, putting on clothes like you would to go to work or class, keeps you in the proper mindset. The mindset that this semester deserves all the same effort and attention of a regular semester, in fact it probably deserves more! So do yourself a favor, indulge in PJs to class only once and a while, and try to stick with real clothes and give the semester the effort and attention it deserves.

In addition to the above, don't be afraid to reach out for additional support if you need it! Plenty of great online tutoring resources exist and we'd be happy to support you through your Spring 20201 STEM courses. Reach out to us here to learn more:
