How To Sketch Graphs Of Polynomials

Writer's picture: STEM Tutoring OnlineSTEM Tutoring Online

Hello STEM fans!

In this latest video in our problem solving series Aaron explains a simple 4 step process for graphing polynomials:

1) Use the factors of the polynomial to find the X intercepts

2) Use the exponents on those factors to determine each zero multiplicity

3) Find the leading term to determine the end behavior type

4) Find the constant term to determine the y intercept

Put it all together and you've got all the ingredients for a great polynomial sketch! Note that it's possible to make a decent graph of a polynomial without each and every one of these elements, but finding them all and checking that they all agree graphically is a great way to make sure you haven't made a mistake!
