Hello STEM Fans!
Here is another installment in our problem solving series. In this edition Aaron begins to unlock the secrets to solid mechanics for us by solving a classic solid mechanics problem involving parallel columns placed under load. The solving process is broken into the following 4 simple steps:
1) Write equation for deflection
2) Write equations for stress
3) Equate the strains & substitute & solve for internal load
4) Use internal load to calculate strain & therefore deflection
And there you have it! Now you're ready to tackle one of the key introductory problems faced by solid mechanics students. Here at STEM tutoring online we tutor all core engineering courses up to and including heat transfer, so if you would like high quality tutoring in subjects such as this reach out to us here
